The Republic of Texas Museum Art Contest

The Republic of Texas Museum

510 East Anderson Lane

Austin, TX78752

To: All Students and Senior Citizens-55+,

The Republic of Texas Museum, a division of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) is sponsoring a contest to document the historical sites, events or activities that occurred or individual(s) who helped to settle Texas in your area prior to 1850. Attached you will find our brochure with information relating to the contests.

The contest categories include: 1) kindergarten and elementary school, 2) middle school, 3) high school and 4) Senior Citizens 55+.

For DRT organizational purposes, there are ten (10) designated districts in the state. During the days of The Republic of Texas (1836-1846) and prior to 1850 each district had numerous historical happenings occur.

The list below explains the type of project for each grade level:

1. If you are kindergarten or elementary age you can document our history by making a poster.

2. If you are middle school or elementary age, an original drawing portraying a historical happening.

3. The middle school and/or high school students with computer skills have the opportunity to create a historical PowerPoint entry for The Republic of Texas Museum Contest.

4. Senior Citizens  age 55+

In each district a first, second and third place winner will be chosen for each of the four contests. Special recognition will be given to all who participate in the contest. The winner’s names in each contest will be sent to their local news service for recognition.

The enclosed brochure has all the specifics relating to The Republic of Texas Museum Contests. We encourage individuals of school age and Senior Citizens 55+ to share their talent and knowledge of Texas History by participating in our contest. The posters, original drawings and PowerPoint entries will become property of The Republic of Texas Museum and are to arrive at The Republic of Texas Museum on or before December 10, 2010

Sincerely,

Betty Bird
